"The term adware frequently refers to any software which displays advertisements, whether or not the user has consented." -Wikipedia.org "Spyware is installed without the users knowledge". It is a malicious software that keeps track of the users actions, records them, then sends them to a database where the info is stored and then used for commercial benefits such as sending ads to the user based on the user's browsing. Spyware can install itself through "piggybacking on wanted programs such as kazaa", or by deceiving or tricking the user into installing it (trojan horse). Spyware slows down the computer significantly and is often hard to get rid of. Adware however is less of a malicious software, it is often found on freeeware and is removed once the freeware has been registered-paid for. Adware is usually only present while the freeware is running and usually disappears once the freeware program is closed. Adware is also used for commercial gain, and is usually found in the form of pop-up ads and is mostly harmless.
